Upgrade Your Facebooking to Life Story Writing!

The Secret Savvy Social Media Enthusiasts All Know!

I am grateful for my friend, Diane (not her real name) … At a time in life when many senior women settle comfortably into retirement, Diane's home has become a bee hive of creative activities, learning projects, and internet businesses! Yet, no matter how busy her day is, she always has time for me. She has become like a second mom to me and no one can put a price tag on that! The internet is closing the generation gap and connecting our world, especially through social media!

Yesterday, Diane shared a beautiful idea with me, saying, "Sue, this Christmas I want to give my children something very special. I want to write them a letter to share with them what I see happening in the future and how they can begin preparing. I don't want them to be taken by surprise. But…. I don't know exactly how to do this and I thought you might be able to help!"

Diane is actually writing the answers to questions 350-365 in the "All-in-One" Life Story Book Kit which includes Life Story Interview Prompts. Like many people, she just needed a little 'push' to begin her Life Story Book… but the idea originated in her heart. Diane knows that her children will need every bit of wisdom and counsel they can get to thrive in this new world we are entering.

I'd love to hog Diane all to myself, but the wisdom coming through this dear lady is just too valuable to keep to myself! So Diane is one woman I am helping to create her Life Story Book. Helping Diane at her own pace is very important – you can't rush a project like this. Many times it takes people a little while to process the idea of recording their valuable life experiences.

If you have some good friends on Facebook like I do, you'll see "gems" appearing all the time in your News Feed – their status updates broadcasting the current tidbits of wisdom they are nourishing their own souls with while at the same time feeding everyone in their inner circle.

With the advent of Smartphones, you can watch this phenomenon happening all around you, whether at the park, the mall, or in school. The most popular social phenomenon of this decade, Facebook, has become the #2 website in our country. Statistics show us that the average person spends 45-minutes daily using this social media. Many people, no more than 10-minutes after their morning alarm goes off are logging into their Facebook account! People want to be known and they want to be listened to. Doesn't it make you feel good when someone writes on your Wall or when they respond to a post you have written?

This is the essence of storytelling… you open up a window of your life (say a post on social media) and someone else responds to what you have shared.

The problem with social media, though, is that you have no say-so over what happens to your content over the years, centuries down the road. What if we could harness the power of these little "blurbs" and photos and compile them into both a digital and print format – so beautiful and with such high quality that it would become a treasured family heirloom carefully passed down for generations?

With Facebook, many of us felt "instantly connected" to our friends and family, and if you have a second mom like Diane in your life, it means you never feel alone while tackling life's challenges.

What if you could upgrade your Facebook experience?

Just as it takes only a few minutes to compose your status updates, so it only takes a mere 5-10 minutes to answer one our 365 Life Story Interview prompts. In fact, a few days ago I used one of those prompts in my own status update and within minutes more than a dozen people began to respond! People love to talk about their lives, about their ideas and thoughts, about how they feel…

Your loved ones feel valued when you stop to ask them questions. How about trying it today…. use one of our Life Story Book prompts and post it to your Facebook wall and see what responses come in!

Here are a few samples…

  • Who is your greatest hero?
  • What is the best idea you've ever had?
  • If you could have dinner with anyone in the world this evening, who would it be and where would you be?
  • You just met a genie who guaranteed you could have 1 wish. What would your wish be?

You see, Life Story Book writing is not simply about creating a gorgeous full-color book with glossy pages – hard-cover or soft-cover… a family heirloom to be treasured for generations … no, it's not just that! It's a LIVING family legacy… it's about building relationships!

Stories bond families like super glue! Families, organizations, churches, and communities all benefit from each one of us walking and talking with each other. Facebook capitalized on this new world tradition…. maybe even helped to create it! But today you can UPGRADE your Facebook experience by turning it into a beautiful Life Story Book that is fully under your control, able to be edited and updated anytime, and you can control the privacy of your photos and stories.

Fabulous! Sharing the happenings in our lives is so automatic on Face Book! A great idea to jump-start even non-writers…

Thanks, Denny… many people don’t consider themselves to be good writers… but they communicate very well on Facebook… sometimes we all just need encouragement! Have a great day!
