Random Acts of Kindness – Wen Gutreuder

By: Susan Deborah Schiller

When little 2-year old Emily Gutreuder fell asleep one evening with what seemed to be an ordinary fever and cough. Her family did not know that she would never wake up alive again. This family, to help deal with the pain of grief, as only families who have lost children can understand, wanted to turn the horror into a blessing. So Wen instituted "Randon Acts of Kindness" in Noblesville, Indiana.

Paying for a stranger's groceries or a meal tab at a restaurant, is how "Random Acts of Kindness" began, and it spread throughout the community! People began doing the acts of kindness in the memory of Emily Grace. Whenever something traumatic has happened in her community, Wen has been one of the first to jump in and help.

This past week the Gutreuder family was once again shaken to the roots of their faith when one of their children opened the garage door and screamed "FIRE!" Everyone evacuated the house, but with no time to salvage anything. All was lost!

Wen belongs to one of the groups I'm a part of, and she's really struggling with tragedy on top of tragedy. If you'd like to respond with an "act of kindness" for the Gutreuder's family, donations can be sent to Church for the Nations, designated "for the fire victims".

All my love,

Sue

Susan Schiller knows how it feels to lose everything: marriage and family, church and reputation, finances and businesses, and more. Susan's upcoming, interactive memoir, "On the Way Home," tells the story of how she came to be known as "the most abused woman" her counselors had yet met and how she learned to navigate her way out of hell to a rich and satisfying life. In her lifetime, Susan has served in duties ranging from home school mom – to pastor –  to full-time deliverance minister – and to Midwest regional prayer coordinator for a large international ministry. These days you can usually find Susan soaking in her favorite hot springs pool, reading a book (or several), blogging, baking bread, or hanging out with her family and friends.
