How to Prosper in Tough Economic Times

A New Family Legacy – Self-Sufficiency and Independence!

By: Susan McKenzie

In the midst of my life story, many years ago, I recorded a promise I wrote to God and myself, written in the margin of my Bible: "Whatever it takes, I'm making a decision to end poverty in my own life and in the lives of others."

Many years ago, while my first husband was starting his business, our family often went hungry and I vowed to myself to always remember what it was like to not have enough food. When times of plenty returned and, by God's grace and favor, I promised myself and God to make a difference in the world to help end world hunger and poverty.

Today, one out of five American families with children is having trouble putting food on the family table. One out of seven Americans are on food stamps!

It didn't used to be this way. Just a little over a century ago the majority of Americans were self-sufficient and self-employed. Our country had little debt and our ancestors were in the habit of storing at least 6-months of food and other resources for emergencies. It's time for change… for each of us to put a hedge of protection around our families.

Are you prepared for a possible financial collapse in our country?  This is not to frighten you, but to advise you to be like a Girl Scout and “Be Prepared”. Remember what happened during Hurricane Katrina? If it was that difficult for the government to care for citizens in distress, how will they take care of the whole country, when the dollar fails?

The Wall Street Journal and CNN are among two mainstream news sources that are voicing words of concern… words many Americans are beginning to take heed to!

Great advice & going to give it a try…we’ve talked about stocking up on canned goods, candles, batteries, etc in case of bad weather, economy or whatever causes life as we know it to “change” from day-to-day. Thanks again for the info, you’re a light amidst the darkness of the media & negativity in the world, Susan. God bless you & your family! :> )

In this turbulent economy, it makes sense to prepare for unexpected catastrophes. Have an emergency food supply is essential. ~ Karen

It’s amazing how dependent we have become on others. One out of seven American on food stamps, dependent on government to feed us… it really is time to change our mindset, to return to earlier values of self-sufficiency … I’m glad you are part of that movement, Karen, and I wish you the best of continued success!

I’ve received mine and am working on a few meals per month. It is never too late to be prepared for an emergency. Always put back more than you will need so that you can help a neighbor that may not have heeded the warning.
