The Best Gift

Five Minute Friday: Gift

By: Susan Deborah Schiller

The first gift of the day is a rosy, yet subdued light that seems to say "everything is all right".

My nightwatch is not over yet, even though a cacaphony of busy birds stirring in their nests fills my ears. The best gift of today cannot be purchased for a million dollars. This day, this fine day, is a gift that can only be received by choosing faith, hope, and love.

It's no ordinary day, this day. To be able to rest when all seems lost, to continue to love when a person in my life is untrue, and to grab hold of beauty even in the midst of turmoil, is the best gift. It is a gift from a realm above this hurting planet. This gift is knowing that everything will be all right.

To receive this gift, just open your mouth and ask God to fill you with His Goodness and Mercy. Like a baby, keep taking in this gift… this gift of shalom – nothing missing, nothinng lacking – the peace that passes all understanding and is not of this world.

The best gift is this moment, in Him.

I'm here from FMF, and I was going to say, "the surfboard caught me!"

And then I read your story.

It resonated with me, in a way deeper than you might imagine, and more than I am willing to say in public. Yet.

I will say that my adult life has bee a recovery from, and a counterbalance to a childhood that was singularly unpleasant. It's been a long road.

Perhaps there is a reason you landed here, Andrew… maybe God is nudging you in some way to share a part of your story. Or maybe there is a part of you that was left behind in the rubble that God wants to redeem. Your story is welcome here, if only in private!

Thank you for your kind words. 🙂

Susan, what beautiful words here. In the midst of the struggle to claim beauty is a gift indeed and you have shared that gift here. And that photo says it too. Beautiful!
