When We Don't Understand God's Ways

When the bottom drops out of your life, your foundation crumbles, and everything you thought to be true and right is proven to be the opposite of what you thought, and you're sitting in a pile of rubble that you no longer recognize as your life, that is "enlightenment"? That is the path to true love, peace, and everlasting joy? To real life?
One of the greatest sources of strength God has provided me all these years of brokenness, confusion, and deep frustration. It's a simple Facebook profile of a man who does not have a public fan page, writer's page, book, or any other mass communication platform.
While he has a blog, the place where this man shares a continuous stream of wisdom is a simple personal Facebook wall. He does not seek money or popularity. He's not actively building a platform. In fact, he is hated by those who misunderstand him. He is rejected by many Christians and judged to be a heretic by others. No matter, it only makes him smile as he goes on enjoying his day.
But to people like me – those who have been shunned, rejected, and persecuted by the religious system, he is a rock in the middle of a turbulent ocean – a place you can grab hold of to keep from slipping beneath the rolling waves.
Like Peter, a disciple of Christ who Jesus called a "Rock" David Grant is quietly and peacefully helping those of us who have been vomitted out of the religious system to find our feet again and to stand on solid ground.
He doesn't teach very much. He doesn't preach, even though he was a pastor for 14 years. He simply asks a lot of questions and and encourages us to think for ourselves! He opens up his wall for dialogue with diverse folks of all different faith backgrounds and the building of long-term relationships has resulted.
On this darkest day of the year, December 21st, a day when David and his family will not have a minute of daylight up in the Arctic Circle where they are currently living, he posted this summary of his life in one of the harshest places in the world to live. When I read this post, it just all made so much sense to me… that even when we don't understand God's ways, He's truly working together all things for our good. ALL things are working together for our good.
I hope you have rocks in your life like David and his family. His wife, Theresa just published her first book and I'm greatly enjoying reading it, called "The Sixth Miracle of St. Magloire". I hope you get to meet this special family. We all need people in our lives who are rock solid – they give us hope, even when everything around us is crumbling.
