Today's Five-Minute Friday Art Topic: Tree

One's own soul is nourished in nourishing others. Trees remind me of this principle… growing fruits and nuts, providing a shady haven for the weary, opening up its arms as home for birds and bugs, releasing oxygen into the air, hosting a place of peace and beauty, and even in death, providing heat in fires or paper for writing.

I want to be like a tree –  a fruitful blessing to the world and not a burden. A tree doesn't stand there, trying to figure out how to be a blessing. It doesn't hold a fundraiser. It just soaks in the sun and quietly generates sap to nourish its limbs.

I am not a whole tree by myself; I am a branch. To the extent that I abide in Christ, who is the tree, the sun, the sap, and the soaking rain will come to me. I don't have to fret or try to figure it out.

My job is to abide in Him, even if means pruning… even if it means pain in the process… even if it means enduring a long, harsh winter. I will simply abide today, knowing that my life's purpose is complete if I simply let go of the need to figure it out and let Him bear fruit through me. So I'm off to soak in the stillness…. and that's what I was doing as I took the photo above. I took five minutes to lay down and just gaze into the sky. We need that sometimes, even for just a few minutes! 🙂
