Ode to December

Ode to December

By: Susan Schiller

Shimmering and shining in the distance;

A new beginning sparks from the embers of the old.

I'm willing to be at peace with the dying;

Yearning to see the dawn of this new life.

Waning wintry days whisper words of hope.

Like special gifts wrapped under the Christmas tree,

All of my hopes and dreams are wrapped in shimmering shades of Love

By the One who has never forsaken me and always believes the best about me.

I can trust there is a bright path through the next year.

So, dear December, I receive each amazing gift with heartfelt gratitude.

One gift from 2014 is my husband, patient and kind.

The next gift is provision – that I had food and shelter.

Another welcome gift is health insurance and medical attention. I hadn't had that in so many years.

A surprise gift is joy and laughter – and my granddaughter to play games and tell jokes with.

December, I am disappointed not to have my book finisheh, as was my plan.

I'm sorry doubts and fears still haunt the hallways of my heart.

Complex post-traumatic stress and its effects have stolen precious minutes, even weeks, months, and years, from my life.

But I have a feeling December's gift to me, as one of God's little sparrows,

Is a tree of life, full of little red berries.

Each time I tell a story, this tree will nourish a soul, for its His-story that brings us life.

December, you are showing me that each gift, from complex PTSD to a new and joyful relationship, is a miracle – it's the gift of Life.

I want to thank you, my friends, here at TeamFamilyOnline.com for being with me!

Such lovely writing! I try to write poetry and while I can do articles, poems are not within my grasp!  You have such a beautiful way of expressing your feelings!

Thanks for sharing!

I’m not very good with poetry either, Bonnie, but I’m glad you found some enjoyment. Sometimes it’s good to experiment in media we are unfamiliar with – it “sparks” new connections and fires up our souls, I believe πŸ™‚

Thanks so much!

Susan, I marvel at the loveliness and feel the deep ache. This is so beautiful and life-breathing. "Each time I tell a story, this tree will nourish a soul." You couldn't be more right. <3
